Producer of the Year 2021

Our mission at Barbury Hill has always been a simple one - to shine a light on the UK’s best food and drink producers and uncover true hidden gems not readily available on the high street.

We've been overwhelmed by the support our customers have shown us through 2021.  Having handpicked each and every product we know just how good they all are but to have received continued glowing feedback and high praise from all our customers too has been the icing on the cake.

We shortlisted our most popular producers of 2021 and asked you to choose your favourite. The votes are now in.

Producer of the Year 2021 Winner:

Pinney’s of Orford

Bill Pinney | Pinney’s of Orford

New to Barbury Hill in 2021, Pinneys quickly became firm favourites not just for their incredible smoked fish, oysters and luxurious hampers, but for their efforts to preserve a piece of history.  75 years on and still very much a family affair, Bill Pinney continues to use the traditional smoking techniques his father taught him on the banks of Butley Creek - possibly one of the most romantic settings we have seen.

The Short List

Barbury Hill Producer of the Year 2021

Fen Farm

Known for their highly acclaimed Baron Bigod, Fen Farm dairy are creators of small batch award-winning cheese which rivals the finest French Brie - fact!  Each and every cheese is cared for with a love and precision which we have not seen anywhere else.  From ladling the curds by hand, to checking on them day and night looking at consistency and ripeness.  Any cheese board without a Baron Bigod just isn't a cheese board.

Stroud Brewery

Tucked away just beneath Minchinhampton Common lies one of the UK's leading organic breweries, Stroud Brewery.  Greg and his team are championing great tasting and responsibly farmed beer following sustainable practices. In our opinion this is WIN WIN.  Their mission to create beer without damaging the planet, inspiring positive change is testament enough that these guys know a thing or two about being the best of British.

Langham Wine Estate

With many accolades to their name Langham are firm favourites not just at Barbury Hill but internationally too.  Winning last year's coveted trophy, 'Best Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year' at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, fighting off top Champagne houses, Langham continues to fill the wine racks of many Barbury Hill customers as well as delighting unsuspecting recipients.

Penrhos Spirits

Distinctive, fruity and bursting with notes of an English garden, our select range of Penrhos Gins and their ever popular non-alcoholic Raspberry Zero, transport us to ripening orchards and British hedgerows. On a mission to combat food waste nothing is wasted, with all the fruits grown on their orchards pressed to make delectable drinks.  This is rural entrepreneurship at its best.

Jolly Good Brownies

One bite and we were smitten.  These luxuriously fudgy, squidgy brownies are something truly special!  With every order created with love and care by founder Oli Barton, these brownies make wonderful gifts particularly with the little added extras of a baby muslin or birthday bunting - a thoughtful touch which both we and our recipients love.

Beal's Farm

Home of Mangalitsa charcuterie producing award-winning cured meats from rare breed pigs, Beal's Farm continue to delight Barbury Hill customers with their exceptional meats.  Whether serving up a celebratory breakfast or sharing a charcuterie platter with friends, the praise for the sumptuous ingredients continues to grow.

Wilfred's

What to drink when you're not drinking?  Simple - Wilfred's.  Served with plenty of ice topped up with tonic and a sprig of rosemary to garnish.  Think Aperol Spritz but without the headache.  Wilfred's has grown a loyal Barbury Hill following with plenty of customers coming back time and time again looking to be transported to sunnier climes.

Bath Soft Cheese

Makers of award-winning small batch organic cheese, Bath Soft Cheese continues to be among one of our best sellers every month.  With something for everyone; Bath Blue, Bath Soft, Wyfe of Bath and Merry Wyfe of Bath, these cheese boxes have really struck a chord with Barbury Hill customers whether being sent as a gift or creating the perfect cheese board.  Looks like its cheese for all this Christmas!

River Test Distillery

Initially inspired by the ‘gin-clear’ waters of the River Test that flow by their home in Hampshire, creators Sarah and Jonathan have created truly memorable spirits.  Not only did we fall in love with their tranquil setting, their gins are pretty excellent too!  With hints of florals and meadowsweet reminiscent of delicate blooms of an English country garden, we love the pure flavours and delicate notes found in each drop.

Bakery Number Eight

Cookies and Brownies - what more could you want. Bakery Number Eight's founder Megan, continues to delight Barbury Hill customers and surprise loved ones with boxes of deliciousness popping through their front doors!  We're particularly addicted to the stem ginger and chocolate cookies and very envious of anyone receiving a subscription box this Christmas!

Giffords Hall

Makers of both still and sparkling wines, Giffords Hall have won numerous awards but one wine to really turn our heads has been their Pinot Noir.  Bursting with red fruity notes this is a real stand out English red - a rare find on English soil.
