British Food and Drink Gifts for Father’s Day

Consider this your annual reminder - there’s just one month to go until Father’s Day! But don’t panic; you’ve still got plenty of time to order thoughtfully handpicked gifts, rather than a hastily bought box of chocolates from the local shop. And to make it even easier, we’ve curated some of our favourite food and drink in one easily gifted box. If he’s a fan of British food and drink, he’ll love our Barbury Boxes, with their carefully selected products from small British producers, farmers, distillers and makers. We’ve rounded up our favourite British food and drink gifts for Father’s Day but you can explore the full range of our Barbury Boxes here

The Essential Salami & Cider Box

Is there a better pairing than cured meat and cider?* The zesty apple of a crisp, dry cider from Tutts Clump cuts through the delectably rich, full-bodied flavour of the Classic Salami Platter and the Port & Garlic Salami Platter perfectly, creating a match made in gastronomic heaven. Handmade in the heart of the Chiltern Hills, these salami platters have long been a favourite with Barbury Hill customers, and combining them with The Legend cider has created a Barbury Box that’s the ideal treat for the father figure in your life.

*If there is, please get in touch - it may feature in our next Barbury Box!

A Pair of Sparkling Showstoppers

Bring a sparkle to his day with two bottles of outstanding English sparkling wine from small family-owned vineyards. The first sparkler is All Angels Classic Cuvee 2014, a recent addition to Barbury Hill’s range of English wine. Hailing from rural Berkshire, this sparkling wine is long aged on lees, with an enticing straw gold hue and a vibrant, fine stream of bubbles. With orchard fruit, citrus and brioche on the palate, it’s rich and full of flavour from the balance of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Meunier grapes.

This standout sparkler is joined by another firm favourite - Langham Corallian Classic Cuvée NV 2019. This Dorset vineyard enjoys a sheltered south-facing slope and a microclimate which creates the optimum conditions for a lively, fresh sparkling wine. Chardonnay dominant, with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the nose has notes of gorse and sea buckthorn, sweetened with apricot tart, while the full-bodied palate is fruity, with hints of alphonso mango, quince, cedar and the zesty hit of lemon peel.

Best of British Charcuterie & Cheese Collection

For the ultimate British food and drink gift for Father’s Day, treat him to a handpicked selection of award-winning charcuterie, artisan cheese, chutney and crackers. It’s all he needs for an indulgent lunch, though we’ve given the option to add a bottle of English sparkling wine, craft beer or farmhouse cider - perfect for truly spoiling him this Father’s Day!

This Barbury Box was described by international private chef and food writer, Philippa Davis, as “outrageously delicious”, and who are we to argue! From the buttery creaminess of the brie with its distinctive citrus notes to the crumbly tang of the small-batch cheddar and the delicate mousse-like creaminess and fresh flavour of the goats cheese, this Barbury Box is a delight for cheese fans. Bring in the smoky pork loin, salami and coppa, the handmade Pear Chutney and a box of Nairn's Super Seeded Oatcakes and you have a meal fit for a King.

Cheese & Craft Cider Pairing Box

We may have jumped the gun by declaring charcuterie and cider to be the perfect pairing. Could artisan cheese and cider take that particular trophy? We’ll let you be the judge with this Barbury Box which bursts at the seams with artisan cheese and award-winning cider. The organic milk of Jersey Fresian cows brings the brie a classic nutty flavour with citrus notes that balance out the natural sweetness, while the full fat cheddar is matured for 12 months in a thick black wax for an exceptionally intense and rich flavour.

After loading up one of the oatcakes with a liberal slice of cheese, topped with fruity pear chutney, he’ll be able to wash it down with a glass of either Traditional Cider or a Great Taste award-winning cider. What more could he ask for this Father’s Day?

English Summer Garden – A Pair of Pinks

With any luck, by June we may be enjoying a little more sunshine and a lot less rain, and that calls for celebratory rosé! We’ve collated two of our favourite pinks, contrasting in style but both equally delicious. They’re the perfect addition to a summer’s lunch, one of those long, lazy afternoons where the conversation flows as easily as the rosé.

Our first is the Folc Dry English Rosé 2022; a pale Provence-style rosé that bursts with notes of peach, raspberry and red apple for a sip that’s as uplifting and aromatic as the summer garden it should be enjoyed in.

This delicious English wine is joined by a tantalisingly fruity award-winner from a small family-run vineyard in The Vale of the White Horse. It’s the Pinot Noir grapes grown in the temperate microclimate and chalky soil of this bucolic location that give Hendred Rosé 2021 its fruit-forward nature. Summer berries, particularly strawberries, lend this wine a fruity but not overly sweet appeal and it’s as at home with food as it is raised in a toast this Father’s Day.
